Materials Needed: Intro video

 

Time Allotted: 10-15 minutes

 

Review Expectations

Respond Safely Every time

  • ·         Wait calmly in line
  • ·         Keep hands and feet to yourself
  • ·         Raise your hand for assistance
  • ·         Remain seated until dismissed
  • ·         Voice Level 0-2 (Staff directed)
  • ·         Use appropriate language and manners
  • ·         Choose healthy foods
  • ·         Walk safely
  • ·         Keep your area clean
  • ·         Throw trash and stack trays
   

 

Objective: Students will use the cafeteria appropriately

 

Discuss and Model Positive Examples:

  • ·         Watch and discuss cafeteria video in your classroom
  • ·         Display and read matrix expectations
  • ·         Take class into the cafeteria
  • ·         As you are walking to the cafeteria review hallway expectations
  • ·         Once in the cafeteria go through above bulleted items and model

 

Discuss Solutions to Problem Areas: (While in the cafeteria)

  • ·         Have students restate the expectations that would address the following problem areas:
    • o   Throwing food/dropping it on the floor
    • o   Touching neighbors and/or their food
    • o   Loudness
    • o   Running
    • o   Getting out of your seat
    • o   Bad manners (talking with your mouth full)
    • o   Leaving messes

 

Practice the Positive Behaviors/ Check for Understanding:

  • ·         (optional) Select a small group of students to role play the specific positive behavior examples or take a mini-quiz
  • ·         For the next 5 days, teacher should monitor cafeteria behavior and distribution of positive behavior tickets to students who are practicing positive behavior
